The present system, however, specialises in long-range fighting rather than grappling. It is an aggressive style, believing that attack is the best form of defence. It emphasises on kicking, leaping and whirling blocks based on wide, open stances.<br><br>The Northern element was created by Ku Yu Cheung. Ku Yu Cheung travelled the Northern parts of China to study the various styles taught in the region and integrated them all into a unified kung fu style, Northern Shaolin.<br><br>Despite the name, the Northern Shaolin style differs from the southern Shaolin school of kung fu, which emphasizes on punches, open-hand strikes etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>What fitness level do\nI have to be at to take part?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any fitness level, the classes are designed to allow you to\ngo at your own pace and concentrate on what you want to improve whether that be\nbalance, strength, agility or all-round\nfitness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>What should I wear\nand bring to a class?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Loose fitting\nclothing, usually tracksuit bottoms, loose t-shirt and socks are perfect to\ntrain in. Also,\nbring along some water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>What happens if I\ninjure myself during a class?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The chief instructor is first aid trained and will deal with\nmost injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>I have a previous\ninjury.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Let the chief instructor know so he can assess whether it\nwill be a problem or if certain things need to be tailored to allow you to work\nout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>When can I use\nweapons?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The weapon forms are taught\nas part of the curriculum, and you will\nbe introduced to them when you\u2019re ready. Weapons are also covered in the seminars that happen throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>When will I be able\nto move up a level?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a very popular\nquestion, and the answer is simple when you are ready. If you practice what\nyou have been taught there is no reason\nwhy each lesson you shouldn\u2019t get moved on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Can I achieve\naccreditation\/certificates?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes. As part of grading\u2019s,\nyou will be awarded your new sash and a certificate of achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>What if I have paid\nupfront but can\u2019t make a class?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, subs\nare like gym memberships use it or lose it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Can I bring my child\nalong?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The lessons are geared more for adults but children 14+\nmaybe suitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Is there parking on\nsite?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, plenty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Are your trainers all\nDBS checked?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why is Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Style different from any other Kung Fu?
